I’ve owned over 30 DACs in the last 5 years. This is one of my favorites and works extremely well no matter whether you’re a seasoned audiophile or a high-end pro audio expert. Even though the Convert-2 has its own carbon pot for adjusting volume, don’t use it if you want to get the best audio performance. Instead, connect it to the Dangerous Remote-ST and take the pot included on the Convert-2 front panel out of the circuit (turn it all the way clockwise until you hear a click).

Volume controls are one of the “brick walls” in the audio realm from my experience. I’ve build preamplifiers and have used most every volume control type available in the marketplace. Carbon pots are the worst. The best are relay based resistor ladders (like in the Dangerous Music Remote-ST component) or transformer based volume controls like the Stage unit in the Vinnie Rossi preamps. Purchase the Dangerous Music Remote-ST and click the on board carbon pot in the Convert-2 so its out of the circuit. Then you take the Convert-2 Dangerous DAC to its highest level. Plus you now have a world class monitor controller and a headphone output added to your system.

The Remote-ST and Convert-2 are the first two high end components that I recommend for any audio situation. Add the Convert AD+ as you can afford it next. These 3 components will provide world class sound quality no matter whether you’re just listening to music or creating it. Flexibility and expansion beyond that is incredible.
